Bursledon 18th September 2011.

Our second visit to Bursledon this year coincided with yet another example of what our weather can do.   We witnessed the Bursledon monsoon.  I had thought that Littlehampton had plumbed the depths of our weather,  I was wrong.   We were sharing a Marquee with the Eastleigh Club which fortunately kept us largely dry,  outside was another matter,  at one stage I thought there was going to be enough surface water to let us sail our models back to the cars.   Enough of Britain’s favourite topic.

We had 9 members attending,  Ken Winter, Dave Reith, Bob Jenner,  Dave Farrow, Alan Hall, Bob Blease, David McNair-Taylor,  Alan Gamblin and myself plus Ken Winter’s grandson,  Jamie,  with a total of 25 models on display,  we regard this as a static display although there was a 20ft pool put up by the Eastleigh Club available,  largely used for the fun models for the public’s use.

Attendance was patchy,  it should have been good but the weather did have an effect.   We were located between the Car Park and the 2ft gauge railway terminus,  a good location,  unfortunately a lot of people were dodging the wet stuff,  not bothering with a railway ride in the wet therefore bypassing us and heading for their cars.   Having said that we did have a reasonable number calling in and showing interest.   Also the bacon butties were as good as ever and plentiful.

It’s nice to see Ken’s grandson attending,  as one of our concerns are how to get young people involved,  he attends and he is involved.
